Am I Johnny Depp?
I was checking my e-mail this morning through Google's Gmail service and had something from my mother. Google displays little advertisements off to the side that are supposed to be related to the e-mail received.
Well, the last ad really surprised me: "Are You Johnny Depp?" The description for the link is "It's Scary Accurate To See What Celebrity You Are. Find Out Now!" Out of curiosity I visited the website.
It started off as a quiz asking for my gender and a few other questions. So I thought, hey this is cool, it's going to see which celebrity I am most like. But then it asked for my cell phone number. Huh? Apparently, it's a paid for service and by entering my phone number I automatically sign up for celebrity gossip. (Good thing I looked at the fine print that was at the bottom of the page and off screen before proceeding). Very tricksy if you ask me.
Upon further reading of the "summary terms" I found this a little funny: " Sprint, Nextel, and Boost customers will be billed for $5.99 per week, Cellular One customers will be billed for $9.99 per month, and AT&T and Verizon Wireless customers will be billed $19.99 per month." Why would they charge more depending on the cellular network you are on? That is just odd. What a scam.
